Founding
John Deere was founded in 1837 in Grand Detour, Illinois. John Deere, a blacksmith at the time overheard farmers complaining about their machines and sought out to fix their machinery problems. The problem the neighboring farmers were experiencing was their plows. Designed for the sandy environment for the eastern part of the United States, their plows were not properly shedding the thick prairie soil the Illinois farmers were working in. Upon hearing their concerns, Mr. Deere fashioned a highly polished steel mold board from a broken saw blade. The rest of 175 + years is rich history.
